When the client first approached Naomi the intention was to name this student accommodation property iQ City.
Naomi first lobbied for a name change, consistent with her design proposals, to distil the celebrated subversive personality of the locale that would vividly communicate with both international and British students.
Collaborating with a carefully curated selection of young designer/makers and artists such as Debbie Smyth, Jail-Make and Hendzel and Hunt, the design of the twenty four common areas proved to be a sector-changing moment, award-winning and widely imitated, pioneering the offer in PBSA of communal kitchen/dining rooms devised for students to make meaningful new friendships and salve any homesickness in the very best way: cooking and eating together.
86% of students asked stated that the quality of the common rooms was the deciding factor in booking IQ Shoreditch against all other alternatives:
“I love the TV lounge on my floor. When (my friends) come here I take them to every single common room and we go up to the 12th floor and come down the stairs and I’m like you have to see every single common room and they were shocked. It was pretty like the best I think I’ve seen.”
