The very first UK site for US student accommodation and multi-family giant Greystar, Tufnell House was part of a distressed portfolio of sites acquired by Greystar with Goldman Sachs.
Naomi took the adjacent park as inspiration for converting the equally distressed Reception and accompanying amenity spaces, expressing the restorative qualities of nature and relaxation out of doors.
The new scheme is heralded by replacement of the metal cladding on the porte-cochère with more sensual slatted cedar and back-lit to provide a welcoming entry point day and night.
In the Reception rough-sawn, white-oiled timber and planting invests the anonymous building design with durable warmth.
Two main amenity spaces, on ground and first floor, are respectively defined as “soft” and “hard” or “quiet” and “loud”, isolating games, a bar and a gym away from a suite of formal and informal study spaces.
Two-way mirrored panels in the bespoke partition walls around otherwise windowless private study rooms allow for the ingress of natural light while maintaining privacy. An abundance of soft surfaces elsewhere contribute to the peace.
